Joaquin Baralt is responsible for operations, key business development and strategic initiatives. An accomplished managed care executive, Joaquin has over 25 years of experience in provider network development and healthcare management. He previously held executive positions at several health care organizations, including Physicians Healthcare Plans, CAC Care Plus Centers and CarePlus Health Plan. Joaquin received his Doctor in Medicine from Universidad Central Del Este, Dominican Republic and a Certificate in Health Care Administration from the University of Miami, Florida.
New Century Health President Scott Pritchard brings significant executive leadership experience in health care delivery transformation. Before joining New Century Health, Scott served as Regional President in Evolent Health’s Value Based Services organization with responsibility for several Accountable Care Organizations. In an earlier Evolent role as VP of Transformation, Scott supported the development of provider and health plan partner strategies. Prior to these roles, Scott spent 9 years in the Healthcare Practice at McKinsey & Company. As Vice President, Business Development, Scott helped to build Objective Health, a McKinsey start-up company focused on delivering market-leading analytic and advisory services to mid-sized hospitals and health systems. Earlier during his McKinsey tenure as an Engagement Manager, Scott advised health systems, health insurers and pharmacy/medical device companies on strategy, operations and organizational effectiveness. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McGill University as well as MS and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University.
Dr. Hertler, as the CMO of New Century Health, is responsible for the advancement of the company’s clinical quality and value-based strategy, utilization management policies and clinical thought leadership initiatives. A practicing board certified oncologist, he is a nationally recognized leader in oncology clinical practice. Dr. Hertler is a member of several American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) committees, including the Clinical Practice, Quality of Care and Payment Reform Committees. In addition, he also serves on ASCO’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative Certification Program Oversight Council. Immediately prior to joining the company, Dr. Hertler was the Administrative Medical Director for Physician Practices at Maine General Medical Center and the Medical Director of the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta, Maine. He is a past president of the Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society. Earlier in his career, Dr. Hertler was Assistant Professor of Medicine in Hematology/Oncology at the Louisiana State University Medical School. Dr. Hertler received his medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at University of Michigan affiliated hospitals. He later completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology/Hematology at Duke University Medical Center. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry with highest honors from Dartmouth College.
Chris provides the strategic leadership for ensuring that the company recruits the right talent, offers the right professional development support and provides the right benefits. Working closely with the CEO and executive leaders, Chris helps to create and sustain a culture that enables our people and our company to thrive. As a senior human resource leader with over 20 years of experience, Chris is skilled in helping technology and health care companies achieve high performance in rapidly changing organization structures and conditions. Immediately prior to NCH, Chris was a senior HR leader at Broadcom, where he was responsible for the comprehensive experience of 6,200+ employees across 20 countries. Preceding his tenure at Broadcom, he had several leadership positions where he was responsible for organization design, change management and talent acquisition. Earlier in his career, Chris had operational and human resource positions at Baxter International, MicroAge Computers, Motorola and Bank of America. He has as BA in Marketing from State University of New York at Oswego.
Dan is responsible for driving short- and long-term growth for New Century Health through business development, marketing, strategy and new product development. Immediately prior to joining NCH, Dan was an early employee of Evolent Health where he held various leadership positions in business development and health care delivery transformation. Most recently, Dan served as Senior Vice President of Partner Development accountable for growth of the Medicaid segment over the last 3 years. In this role, he was responsible for working with health systems and physician groups to start innovative joint venture health plans and accountable care organizations.
Prior to joining Evolent, Dan was an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company, where he consulted on strategy, operations and mergers & acquisitions to payers and providers across the firm’s healthcare practice. Earlier in his career, Dan was a high school math teacher and an investment banker. Dan holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and received a BA from Georgetown University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude.
Giselle’s leadership responsibilities at New Century Health focus on developing innovative provider-payer alignment and engagement strategies that enable specialty physicians to delivery evidence-based and affordable care. She brings more than 20 years of health care leadership and management experience in physician network development, provider education, practice management and training. Having joined NCH several years after its founding, Giselle has been an integral part of the executive and senior leadership team. Prior to NCH, she was the Director of Physician Relations for Provider Network Solutions, a Florida Third Party Administrator. Earlier in her career she held management positions at Tenet Physician Services, Physicians HealthCare Plans, PacifiCare and Memorial Healthcare System.
Paige Fretwell is Senior Vice President of Performance Excellence and is a New Century Health co-founder. Paige is responsible for program implementation and client partner success. She brings over 25 years of health care operations experience, building effective and scalable health care operations and third-party administration organizations. Earlier in her career, Paige held executive and management positions at several leading national and regional health care companies, including Global Health Systems, Inc. and Westminster Medical Group. Paige attended California State University at Long Beach.
A senior executive with New Century Health since 2013, Santosh Dave leads technology and business operations for clinical and claims functions. He is also responsible for the execution of clinical product strategy in collaboration with the chief medical officer. An accomplished health care technology leader, Santosh brings over 25 years of experience from a diverse group of Fortune 50 and private equity-backed companies, including executive leadership roles at CareCentrix, Viant Inc. and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. Earlier in his career, he held management positions at GE, Sprint and several global technology companies. Santosh, a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Six Sigma Green Belt, received a BS in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Technology, India.
Dr. Fernando Villacian is an interventional cardiologist and managed health care executive at New Century Health. He is responsible for the advancement of technology-based cardiology solutions that enhance quality of care delivery and reduce variation in treatment. Dr. Villacian has four decades of health care experience and has been with NCH for 11 years.
Dr. Villacian has been a leader in the cardiovascular quality and utilization management space, helping physicians in managed care organizations, for over 30 years. Prior to joining NCH, he worked directly with managed care organizations like Healthspring (Cigna), CarePlus (Humana) and HealthSun (Anthem). He was a founding executive of SmartEMR, a web-based electronic medical record solutions provider. While there, he created the logic and built the architecture for their first EMR. Dr. Villacian received his MD from the University of Zaragoza in Spain and completed his internal medicine and cardiology training at Yale University and University of Tennessee medical centers.
Ed Bassin, Ph.D. is New Century Health’s Senior Vice President of Provider Specialty Solutions, providing operational leadership over BPCI Advanced and OCM partnerships. Dr. Bassin brings over 20 years of experience in episode of care analytics and bundled payments. He began his health care analytics career designing and developing physician profiling and quality measurement systems. Since then, he has focused on using episodes for bundled payments. He has held leadership positions at prominent bundled payment firms and designed the payment model that was eventually used in BPCI.
Atul Dhir is Chairman of New Century Health and joined the company in January 2012. Dr. Dhir is a physician and scientist with over 25 years of leadership experience in building and leading innovative health care companies. Before joining NCH, Dr. Dhir was the CEO of BiPar Sciences, Inc., a cancer-focused biotech subsidiary of the global pharmaceutical company, Sanofi-Aventis. Prior to BiPar Sciences, Dr. Dhir was at US Oncology, (now McKesson Specialty Health), one of the largest providers of cancer care in the United States. During his eight years with US Oncology, Dr. Dhir led several businesses, including serving as the president of the company’s Cancer Research Group, one of the nation’s leading cancer drug development companies. Dr. Dhir has also held senior positions in the health care division of Monsanto Company and as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. Dr. Dhir received his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. He completed his doctorate of philosophy (DPhil) in medicine from the University of Oxford, UK, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.
